Chapter Six

Janet brought her out of the operating room, and laid her in a bed in the infirmary. Daniel kept praying that she would come out of this alive.

“Why does this always happen to me? I feel like everything I love always gets taken from me.” Daniel Sobbed.

They all knew he was right. He always did get the raw end of the deal. Seems as though Daniel could never be happy without something happening. Daniel told the others that it was ok for them to leave. That they could go home or do anything else that they needed to do. But they all reassured him that they would be here for him and her.

“Daniel.” Jennifer spoke softly, barely loud enough for anyone to hear.

Daniel jumped. He was really surprised to hear her voice.

“I’m right here baby girl.”

“I see a woman. She has a white energy around her. She said her name is Oma Desala. I needed to tell you, I love you. I am going with her now. Daniel. Please don’t be upset. I will visit you often.”

Daniel leaned down to kiss her. Next thing he knew she was lifted up into a light. Janet, General Hammond, Jack, Teal’c, Sam and Daniel, all silently said there goodbyes, as they watched her rise up into the air.

After she was gone Daniel got up and ran to the trash can and threw up. He just lost the love of his life. There was no reeling back from this. He swore he would always protect her, he felt as though he failed. The rest of SG1 knew not to leave Daniel alone. They don’t know what he would try to do.

Daniel asked the general for some time off, which he granted. He knew he would have to get his head clear before he could come back to work. He has fallen more in love with her than he ever did Sha’re, and that is the part that is killing him. On her birthday here in two months he was going to ask her to marry him. Now he would never get that chance.

Daniel drove home in silence. He knew the house would never be the same. He wanted her there, to hold, to know that she was alright. When he got into the house, he did something he never normally did. He grabbed his bottle of Jack, and turned the radio on. He had to drown out his sorrows. He heard the song coming out of the stereo, and if fit the mood perfectly.

The Song was:

What hurts the most

By Rascal Flatts

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house

That don’t bother me

I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out

I’m not afraid to cry every once in a while

Even though going on with you gone still upsets me

There are days every now and again, that I pretend I’m ok

But that’s not what gets me

What hurts the most

Was being so close

And having so much to say

And watching you walk away

And never knowing

What could have been

And not seeing that loving you

Was what I was trying to do

It’s hard to deal with the pain of loosing you everywhere I go

But I’m doing it

Its hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I’m alone

Still harder

Getting up, getting dressed, living with this regret

But I know if I could do it all over

I would trade give away, all the words I saved in my heart

That I left unspoken

What hurts the most

Was being so close

And having so much to say

And watching you walk away

And never knowing

What could have been

And not seeing that loving you

Was what I was trying to do

What hurts the most

Was being so close

And having so much to say

And watching you walk away

And never knowing

What could have been

And not seeing that loving you

Was what I was trying to do

Not seeing that loving you
That's what I was trying to do
Ooohhh...

Daniel, just laid there and cried. He didn’t hear the knocking on the door. He was so drunk and upset, the walls could have came down and he wouldn’t have moved. Jack, Sam, and Teal’c let themselves in, with the key that they had. They called out for Daniel but there was no answer.

They walked into his room to find him curled up in her clothes smelling them, nursing a bottle of Jack, and crying. He knew they were there but didn’t care enough. He just lost his love, and they weren’t going to tell him what he could and couldn’t do.
